Celebrating the Spring Equinox in the courtyard of Vecpilsētas street 2 has now become a tradition. Here a special place is also given to the swings inviting visitors to “swing the spring” and “help the sun climb the sky mountain”. At 12 p.m. Dimzēns together with Rīgas Danči will give a small spring song concert in order to soon after play fun games with the participants during which the best dance group will be determined. The bravest owners of dyed eggs will be able to compete in egg duels. Throughout the event creative workshops Equinox Greetings and Willow Decor will be opened. For a separate fee children will have the opportunity to go on a small ride around the Jelgava Old Town Street quarter with a pony. From 1 p.m. a cookie painting workshop will be open in the nearby café Brokastnīca. In order to immortalize the event a photo box with immediate photo printing will be available.
Visitors are invited to prepare in advance and bring uncooked eggs to dye them together with the talented Austras raksti hostesses. Under the guidance of the hostesses, the eggs will be wrapped in buds, branches, leaves and other botanical materials. After being boiled in onion skins eggs will get ornate and spring-like ornaments. Experience from previous years shows that the egg-dyeing skills of the Austras raksti hostesses according to the ancestral method are unsurpassed!
Participation in the event is free of charge.
